Beyond Beauty

Modernism is a movement in arts, architecture, music, literature and applied design (graphic, fashion, product design) that aims to break free from the traditional looks. The concept of modernism is related to graphic design using grip system. Grips are structure made up of vertical and horizontal axes to structure the page layout. Therefore, the study of structure, geometry and mathematics comes in. Aesthetics values and golden ratio will be easier to understand after the studies of structure, geometry and mathematics.

WHY zine



WHY zine is about ‘Why you buy what you buy’. Is it due to the brands or have been tested and its good? We are the consumers in this zine, all of us got 10mins for no budget spree and 30mins for $50 budget in Gaint supermarket. After that, we analyse each of us personality and comments on the items that we picked with or without budget. There are 2 issues, colored or B&W. Coloured issues arepackage and got free gift inside and it costs $2.90. B&W costs $0.90 with nothing, just the zine. Its also test out consumers going for the outlook or simply just the zine itself.

Sheer


Women have a love-hate relationship with their period. According to our survery, more than 90% of the women want a sanitary napkin that does not distract or obstruct them from going on with their daily activities. Therefore, our brand name: Sheer. Sheer explains all the consumer needs to know about sanitary napkin they are purchasing, that it is a fine, thin and comfortable fabric that is almost never there. Sheer gives the feeling of lightness and freedom, which is a constract of what a woman would feel when going through her period.
Logo:
The typeface for the Sheer logo is called Angelina, aimed to give it a contemporary and modern touch. The stroke situated under the logo highlights the word ‘She’ in Sheer, that is the priority in our product which is her, the consumer. This is followed by the flower which portray femininity and is a familiar symbol to women.
Packaging:
The packaging are shaped as handbags because of its strong fashion statement it gives women. The fluorescent colors which were chosen for the bags because it shows to be different and highlight the confidence of a modern woman. The material for the packaging would be a recyclable plastic - which is biodegradable within three months.

Conflict

The conflict that I researched on were Death penalty and Human rights. Every individual got their own perspective towards this issue. The conflict between these two parties are mainly debate about which is right or wrong. Therefore, I used quotation mark to portray the individual thoughts. The title 'disputation' meaning debate or argument.

Royal mail

The theme I choose for UK postage stamps is Rock band. I have chosen The Beatles, Oasis, U2, Coldplay, Bullet for my Valentine and Lostprophets because these bands are very successful in the UK market as well as US.
My target audience age group between 16-24 year old young adults. The interactive idea by using a red transparency filter to change the image. I pixelated the image because they from a n ordinary band to an extraordinary band.

Night Safari
Company: Night SafariTagline: "Closer and Wilder"

The single minded proposition is to come and experience the nightlife in Night Safari with a difference. The unique selling point is up close and personal with the endanger animals.
The medium that I have used in this advertisement were stickers. The shoe and paw prints are brown in color because I want to portray the muddy prints. I placed the prints beside the greenery plants because animals lives in the forest and they consume leaves.
The primary target audience are tourist and secondary are local.

Product: 3M Post-It®Tagline: "Makes Communication Easy"

The single minded proposition is Post-It® products have been making the art of communication easier and a lot of fun for over 20 years and come in many colors, sizes, themes and shapes.
The unique selling point is communication. In Singapore, some people will 'reserve' their seat or table by using tissue paper or maybe newspaper but it will be easily blown away. With Post-It, it sticks onto surface plus getting your message through by writing on it.
The target audiences are between 18-35 year old readers of 8Days magazine.

Hermann Zapf

Palatino is a sans serif typeface, created by Hermann Zapf back in 1948. Palatino typeface is named after the Italian master of the 16th century Giambattista Palatino.
The series poster are part of the zine, of course, about the typeface. The Zine is about what happened between 1948 - 1949 (the timeline creating Palatino). That explains the backdrop of the poster, made by random pages in the zine.

The Arrow is simple but it gives us direction. Without arrows, we can’t reach to the destination and accidents might happen. If you use it in a different place, like an iPod player, it can represent next or play. So the question is simple, which direction should we point to?
